Being a Soulslike, The Last Hero of Nostalgaia has a breadth of systems and mechanics for you to mess around with to make your character stronger as you progress through the cold, pixelated world of Nostalgaia. Many of these systems are heavily influenced by the Dark Souls series, so veterans of the genre should be familiar with most of what's thrown at them.

However, a few curveballs are thrown into the mix that breathes new, creative life into the beloved formula. Remembering Equipment is one such mechanic that allows you to upgrade your weapon, learn new moves, and earn excellent bonuses for your character.

Remembering Equipment Overview

Remembering Equipment is a crucial system in The Last Hero of Nostalgaia that grants you several bonuses that will help you return Nostalgaia to its former, unpixelated glory. You will also need to Remember a piece of your Equipment to progress further into the story, which can be an elusive task if you don't know where to look.

How To Remember Equipment

To Remember Equipment, you will have to open your menu and then navigate to the Inventory menu rather than the Equipment menu. Once in there, you can scroll through your list of items and will see all of your weapons, armor, shields, and more. Next, you will want to hover over the piece of Equipment you wish to Remember and then press "Y/F" to toggle the item's Lore.

Reading the Lore of a piece of Equipment will give you a vague description of where you must go to Remember it. You will first come across this mechanic after you defeat the tutorial boss, "Spirit of Heroism," and make your way to the Heartflow Altar. Once here, speak with the Old Man beside the Tether, who will give you a vague understanding of how this system works.

After speaking with the Old Man, open your Inventory while standing in front of him, and then navigate to the Locksmith's Serrated Saw. The weapon icon should be violently vibrating. This indicates that you can Remember it. Click on it. There will be an option to Remember the weapon, accept it and watch it transform in front of your eyes. This will open a critical pathway near the Heartflow Altar that allows you to progress in the game. Additionally, if you have the Shield of Inspiration, you can head down the stairs of the Heartflow Altar and Remember it in front of the lone well sitting in the room at the bottom.

Most pieces of Equipment in The Last Hero of Nostalgaia will be Remembered this way, so be prepared to search high and low for where you have to go to Remember them based on the subtle hints. However, some items will require a sum of Memory (Souls) to Remember them, which will come in handy when you need Insight.

When resting at Tethers, look to the bottom of the menu to see if you have any pieces of Equipment that can be Remembered in the area. This will also tell you how close you are to the next Insight Bonus, which we will cover a bit later.

What Does Remembering Equipment Do?

What's Insight? Before we dive too deeply into that, let's go over the benefits of Remembering Equipment in The Last Hero of Nostalgaia. This mechanic will buff the Stats of your Equipment, unlock Special Abilities, and grant you Insight.

Things such as shields will receive better resistance to Physical and Source damage when blocking, while weapons will receive a slight boost in their Stats and a Special Ability that you can be used with "LT." Special Abilities will cost Access to use. Using the Special Ability will also grant you a slight buff, such as regenerating Stamina when landing hits, dealing more damage against Humanoids, and much more.

Lastly, Remembering Equipment will grant you one Insight, giving you various Insight Bonuses that will help you considerably in your adventures. You can learn more about Insight in the section below, where we cover how much Insight you need for each Bonus and what each Bonus offers you.
